It was more "Cowboy down!" than "Cowboy up!" as riders fell off the mechanical bull at the third annual Stetsons and Stars benefit for the Alzheimer's Association, Mid-South Chapter, on Saturday night at Minglewood Hall. Unlike real rodeo riders, party guests who rode the "bull" fell onto a large blue inflatable cushion. Full story »

It might be difficult to nab a king cake, but Mardi Gras beads apparently still are plentiful two weeks after Fat Tuesday. Guests wore them at the Phoenix Club Mardi Gras Party and Casino Night on Saturday at the Cadre Building. The annual event, which features casino-style gambling with fake money, is a fundraiser for Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis. Brent Long used real Volkswagen bodies for decorations at the 2010 Memphis Heart Ball on Saturday night at The Peabody. The VW bugs, which Brent found rusting away in an Alabama backyard, lots of flowers and the "Get Back! The Cast of Beatlemania" Beatles tribute band based in Nashville helped guests relive or live for the first time the 1960s and early '70s at this year's fund-raiser for the Memphis Heart Association. Party Line: Evening in Paris at Children's Museum of Memphis

When Dina Martin and Jenny Vergos sang, "Come to the cabaret!" Saturday night at the Children's Museum of Memphis, they weren't kidding. One room was transformed into a cabaret with a dance floor, stage, bar and live entertainment. The rest of the museum was Paris, France, with an Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and Charlie Chaplin. The words "... and automobiles" could have been added to the "Wine, Women & Shoes 2010" title of Thursday night's Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center benefit. The jam-packed party, which drew mostly women and featured wine tastings, a shoe fashion show and a market place with shoes, purses and other items, was held at Mercedes Benz of Memphis. Full story »

Instead of shorts, sweat socks and sneakers, Memphis Grizzlies players got to wear suits, fashionable hosiery and dress shoes to the first Grizz Gala on Saturday night at Gold Strike Casino Resort. The party, which featured music, dancing, food, interactive games and the chance to meet Grizzlies players, was a fundraiser for the Memphis Grizzlies House at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The new Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law turned into Rock 'n' Roll Law School for a night as students sipped cocktails and danced to music played by deejay Robert Raiford. Instead of carrying law books, students and other guests in formal attire carried plates of food from area restaurants as they roamed the soon-to-be hallowed halls on a rainy Saturday night at the black tie gala celebrating the opening of the new University of Memphis law school at 1 North Front. It was "Curtain up!" Saturday night as the new home of Playhouse on the Square at the corner of Cooper and Union was unveiled for actors who performed in past Playhouse and Circuit Playhouse productions. "I think any time a new theater opens anywhere in the world -- a live theater -- it's a great cause for rejoicing," said veteran Memphis actor Barry Fuller. "And we're rejoicing tonight." Party Line: 'Reindear' bear bounty

Instead of pulling a sleigh, the Reindear used a truck to transport almost 300 Teddy bears collected at the Reindear Roundup on Wednesday night at Clark Opera Center. Guests were asked to bring a new, nonseasonal Teddy bear to the annual event. The bears are given to children throughout the year at the Memphis Child Advocacy Center. Elvis had a blue Christmas, but Pat Kerr Tigrett had a Blues Ball Christmas. Instead of holding The Blues Ball in the accustomed early fall, Pat, the party's founder and general chairman, held the party -- her 16th -- Saturday night. She and her staff wrapped up the Gibson Guitar Factory in Christmas lights and miles of shiny mylar ribbon. Full story »

Knives and forks flew almost as fast as tennis racquets at the March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction on Sunday evening at the Racquet Club of Memphis. Tennis courts were converted to a spacious dining room at the benefit, "The Art of Food. The Gift of Life." Chefs from area restaurants and catering companies provided the food. Full story »
