Best Bets: Tex-Mex
Just about everyone adores Mexican food, but let's show a little love for Tex-Mex, cheese dip and all. Whining & Dining bloggers recently shared their thoughts on good local Tex-Mex:
Don Gale gives a thumbs up to both El Nopal and El Mezcal (each have multiple locations, though he points out the East Memphis El Mezcal at 402 Perkins Ext. is his favorite.
The Happy Mexican gets a couple of nods of the oversized sombrero. MemphisBen prefers the Downtown location (385 S. 2nd; 529-9991) to the newer one at 6080 Primacy Pkwy; 683-0000. You visit and decide -- and be sure to order the Ultimate Margarita when you're there.
But it's Los Compadres that MemphisBen (and others) prefers above all the others, saying it's "excellent and easily my favorite." Poor Ben; Los Compadres is closed while they relocate just down the street to 3295 Poplar; we'll keep you posted on an opening date.
El Molina (multiple locations, but blogger BillH misses the one at 6496 Summer; 380-9253): "Since we moved to Franklin, we still haven't found a Mexican Restaurant we like as well as El Molina on Summer. We still go back to Memphis fairly often (we still have a home there) and never miss a chance to go to El Molina. The service is excellent and fast. The food is always good and reasonably priced. Try the enchiladas rancheros."
