WHINING & DINING: Noodle Doodle Do
I just snagged a menu for Noodle Doodle Do, Karen Carrier's new lunch spot that opened in Do Sushi this week, and I couldn't help but laugh at the irony.
Don't get me wrong -- the menu looks incredible and I can't wait to get over to eat. But I've had this horrible cold, the world's worst, for weeks. Karen called me when it was raging to tell me about the noodle bar and the name of it. When I read the information back to her, I said something like, "So OK, it's Noodle Doodle Do and it's opening--" and she interrupted me, laughing.
"It's Noodle Noodle Do," she said.
I told her I couldn't hear anything because of the cold, but I told her I liked the Doodle touch.
A few days later, she called me back.
"I talked to my staff. We're going with Noodle Doodle Do," she said.
The ironic part? I bet if I'd had a big bowl of her Tom Yum Gung Hot + Sour Soup, my ears would've been clear.
It's shrimp, Thai chiles, lemongrass, straw mushrooms, lime leaf and ginger in a Thai roasted chile paste broth.
If that one doesn't get you going, there are 10 more to choose from. The noodle bowls all come with Thai basil, mint, cilantro, fried garlic oil, sprouts and Thai chile.
There's even a Jewish chicken noodle soup, complete with noodles and matzo balls.
Salads and street food snacks (spring rolls, egg rolls, a beef slider, satays and so on) round out the menu, and there's also sushi for lunch.
